Quality Function Deployment - QFD

Quality Function Deployment or QFD is defined as “a system for translating
consumer requirements into appropriate company requirements at every stage, from
research, through product design and development, to manufacturing,
distribution, installation and marketing, sales and service”. Strategically used
QFD becomes one of the processes leading to the long-term market dominance
through high quality.
QFD considers not only the documented requirements, but explores the undefined
expectations and anticipations of the customer, and drastically improves the
understanding of customer requirements, ”wants” and “needs”. It applies
measurable values to the identified consumer needs and expectations, and

key Total Quality Management - TQM techniques, QFD relies heavily on the
